The US Environmental Protection Agency recently proposed rolling back fuel economy standards for new vehicles—a costly move for American consumers with dire implications for global warming, air pollution and public health. The Center for Sustainability Solutions responded by convening leading scholars, industry executives and policymakers to evaluate the proposal and find an optimal policy path forward. The engagement facilitated a non-partisan set of research-driven recommendations published in Science in time to inform the proposed policy during the public comment period.
